Kinds of Noun

There are eight kinds of noun.

  1. Common Noun
  2. Proper Noun
  3. Collective Noun
  4. Abstract Noun
  5. Material Noun
  6. Gerund Noun
  7. Dominitive Noun
  8. Compound Noun

Common Noun

A common noun is a name given in common to every person or thing of the same class or kind.

Example:

Woman, man, girl, building, city, dry etc.

Proper Noun

The particular name of a person, place or thing is called a Proper Noun.

Example:

Sameer, Pakistan, December, Sunday etc.

Collective Noun

A singular noun denoting a collection or number of individuals is called Collective Noun.

Example:

Bunch, Troop, Family etc.

Abstract Noun

A noun denoting quality or state of a person or thing is called an Abstract Noun.

Example:

Bitterness, Piety, Poverty etc.

Material Noun

The name given to the agricultural or mineral things are called Material Noun.

Example:

Rice, Wheat, Iron etc.

Gerund Noun

Gerund is a verbal noun which made by adding "ing" at the end of the verb, it is used to subject or object in the sentence.

Example:

1. Swimming is easy.
2. Smoking is bad habit.

Dominitive Noun

The noun which shows the affectioness or hate of a noun is called dominitive noun. A dominitive noun is used with "let" or "ling" at the end of the noun.

Example:

monkeylet, duckling, booklet etc.

Compound Noun

The name of any thing which is spoken in more than one word is called compound noun.

Example:

father-in-law, bedroom, dinning table etc.
